Assistant Professor of English needed to teach journalism, professional writing, and composition courses beginning August, 2009. The successful candidate will teach a 3/3 load (half composition) with responsibility for the major concentration in professional writing and journalism, advising the student-run campus newspaper, the Pioneer Frontier, and overseeing writing internships. Candidate may also teach introductory mass media, service learning or other core courses, or creative writing, as the schedule permits. MFA or PHD preferred but will also consider Masters in Journalism or English; teaching experience needed. Professional experience in the field of journalism a plus.

PSYCHOLOGY/GATEWAY
The Tusculum College (www.tusculum.edu) Psychology Department seeks to fill a new full-time position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August, 2009. This position will be based at our Knoxville, TN campus. Most courses will be taught at our Knoxville campus. Some courses will be taught at our main campus in Greeneville, TN. Responsibilities include teaching courses in Introductory, Developmental, and Educational Psychology using a hybrid on-line course delivery system and assisting with the oversight of adjunct instructors. Expectations involve institutional and community service and maintaining a program of research that mentors undergraduate researchers. Candidates should hold a Doctorate by the time of appointment. Area of specialization is open but preference will be given to applicants with a background in Developmental Psychology. PHYSICAL EDUCATION/SPORT STUDIES
Physical Education: Tusculum College seeks candidates for the position of Assistant Professor of Physical Education. Candidates must possess a Masters Degree in Physical Education, or related Sport Studies field. Tusculum College, Graduate and Professional Studies Program seeks highly qualified professional for full time faculty appointment to teach various courses in the Masters in Education Organizational Training in Education and Human Resources Development programs. Terminal degree and accomplished practitioner in organizational change and education are required. Primary teaching assignments will be in northeast Tennessee locations. GATEWAY HISTORY POSITION
The Department of History at Tusculum College is seeking applications for a full-time Assistant Professorship in Modern European History, beginning August 15, 2009. We invite applicants with demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship. Research specialization is open, but teaching abilities must include European and United States history at the survey level. Additionally, preference will be given to applicants whose vitae indicate the ability to teach courses in Western political or church traditions at the upper-division level. INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST

Tusculum College is searching for an instructional technology specialist to promote, implement and manage instructional technology needs of the faculty, students and staff. The position will be based on the main campus in Greeneville, but will be expected to provide support to constituencies on our sites in Knoxville, Morristown, and Gray on occasion.

Example of Duties:

  • Consult with faculty in educational design and curriculum design using technology; develop on-site and web-based resources for faculty, staff and students
  • Provide formal training for faculty, staff and students on applying technology in the learning environment
  • Help faculty incorporate technology into the teaching and learning process
  • Support online & hybrid course delivery through curriculum design, learning activities, and class discussion activities in an online environment
  • Troubleshoot technical glitches in the classroom on an "as-needed" basis
  • Keep faculty apprised of training and grant opportunities available
  • Facilitate connection between different college departments and initiatives to facilitate synthesis
  • Work in a team environment with Information Systems staff to deliver the highest quality customer service to faculty, staff and students in a fast-paced environment
  • Locates, researches and disseminates best practices in emerging technologies for learning environments in higher education

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CHARACTERISTICS

  • Master's degree in Instructional System Design, Instructional Technology and/or Adult Education preferred. Candidates with a bachelor's degree and significant experience in curriculum design in a higher education environment will be considered
  • Experience designing and providing training seminars and learning courseware is required
  • Strong customer service ethic, ability to establish collaborative working relationships at all levels of the college is required
  • Experience integrating Web 2.0 into teaching and learning environments is preferred
  • Experience managing GIS mapping software, SPSS, and other software packages is preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to work on multiple tasks simultaneously while remaining accountable for deliverables to multiple constituencies
  • Ability to communicate problems to appropriate personnel effectively to ensure timely resolution
  • *Willing to work a flexible schedule, with occasional nights and weekends as needed
